Dr. Emily Monago has fulfilled an inaugural role at GTRI. In this role, Emily leads and builds upon existing GTRI efforts for inclusion and belonging that align with existing GTRI and Georgia Institute of Technology’s, visions, missions, and strategic plans.
Before joining GTRI, Emily served as the inaugural chief of inclusion efforts at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Her role included providing leadership and collaborating broadly with campus and community partners to advance inclusive, belonging, and social justice initiatives.
Emily has served as the President (2021) and the inaugural Vice President (2020-2021) of the Rocky Mountain Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. This association brought diversity officers from Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming together to collaborate, network, and strategize on addressing regional concerns and leverage knowledge and resources. She also served on or chaired several other executive-level university and community boards that advanced inclusion and belonging. She currently serves on a national conference planning committee that advances inclusion, belonging, and fairness.
Emily has more than 30 years of experience working at three different public universities. Most of her career has been dedicated to promoting and creating inclusive communities locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
Selected educational highlights are that Emily holds a master’s degree in public administration from Kent State University (Kent, Ohio) and a Ph.D. in communication studies from Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio).
