Applied Systems Laboratory

The Applied Systems Laboratory conducts applied research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) of ground-based air and missile defense (GBAMD) and rotary-wing aviation systems.

Activities include hardware-in-the loop (HWIL) and soft ware-in-the loop (SWIL) RDT&E, system modeling and simulation, system-of-systems and family-of-systems interoperability for integrated air and missile defense (IAMD), GBAMD fire control and command & control (C2), and critical safety software development & engineering.

ASL conducts world-class applied research, development, test & evaluation (RDT&E) for several government agencies located at the U.S. Army Redstone Arsenal and local Huntsville area, including:

The laboratory’s multidisciplinary systems engineering and software development research skills include:

Ground-based air & missile defense (GBAMD) command & control (C2) design, development, modeling, simulation and analyses
Modeling, simulation & analyses of complete air and missile defense systems
Integrated air and missile defense architecture design, development & engineering
Software development and engineering of rotary-wing aviation mission planning systems

The lab conducts RDT&E activities of air and missile defense and aviation systems including hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), software-in-the loop (SWIL), live-fire exercises and system-of-systems & family–of–systems interoperability. Other significant applied research areas include integrated fire control, interceptor guidance & control, safety critical software development and modern technology insertion.
